Since 2023, the consistent release of photographs and video footage documenting incidents at sea has helped establish a clearer account of events, challenge misleading narratives, and bring the realities on the water to the attention of the international community.

Beyond informing the Filipino public, these efforts strengthen international awareness and reinforce the foundation for cooperation with like-minded nations. As maritime challenges persist, the Philippines must remain steadfast in making facts visible, defending the truth, and ensuring that developments in the West Philippine Sea are never hidden from public view.

Securing the West Philippine Sea also rests on the shoulders of our Airmen.

While the world follows the West Philippine Sea through headlines, maps, and political rhetoric, a group of young airmen and airwomen live this reality through grit, sweat, and unwavering devotion to the flag. They are the enlisted personnel of the Philippine Air Force.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐚, PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, delivered a lecture on the West Philippine Sea Transparency Initiative to more than 200 students of the 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟖𝟑, 𝟐𝟖𝟒, 𝟐𝟖𝟓, 𝟐𝟖𝟔, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟖𝟕 at Bactol Hall, NCOS, ETC, PAF, Fernando Air Base, Lipa City.

For Rear Admiral Tarriela, uniformed personnel must be the first to be empowered on the West Philippine Sea issue. To defend the nation’s borders, those in uniform must first understand where those borders lie. And 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩, 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐥𝐚𝐰, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞.
He answered questions from the students in attendance and urged the Airmen to keep serving as 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚.

The West Philippine Sea Transparency Group had the privilege of participating in the West Philippine Sea Symposium at Canossa Academy in Batangas on October 21, 2026, an initiative that underscores the importance of education in fostering maritime awareness, critical thinking, and patriotism among the Filipino youth.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐓 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐚, PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, served as the speaker during the Symposium on the said school with more than 130 student participants.

The engagement was made even meaningful by the students’ curiosity, enthusiasm, and thoughtful participation. Their eagerness to learn about the West Philippine Sea reflects the promise of a generation capable of questioning responsibly, distinguishing facts from disinformation, and understanding the legal and historical foundations of our country's maritime rights and interests.

Wherever there are young Filipinos willing to learn, WPSTG believes there must be an opportunity to inform, engage, and inspire them to appreciate and stand for what is rightfully ours.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the vital role of the 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 as the country’s frontline maritime responder during the PCG Change of Command Ceremony held at Manila Port Harbor on October 19, 2026.

In his speech, the President highlighted the PCG’s commitment to assisting vessels in distress, responding to maritime emergencies, and providing aid to Filipino fishermen in need. The President also emphasized the Coast Guard’s collaboration with other maritime agencies in safeguarding the public, protecting the country’s maritime interests, and upholding its sovereign rights across Philippine waters.
