When conflict halted Middle East energy exports on Saturday, February 28, US oil futures were closed until Sunday evening, so airlines and refiners had no regulated way to react. Within weeks, jet fuel prices doubled.

The market didn't wait. In a recent comment letter to the CFTC, @HyperliquidPC and trade[XYZ] report that roughly two-thirds of that weekend's price move happened onchain in perpetual contracts, before US futures reopened.

Policymakers deserve industry support as they're looking to better understand the technical mechanics and impact of these new technologies.
