We've purchased low-enriched uranium from @urencoglobal for our first reactors. And we're working together to establish the fuel conversion capabilities those reactors will need. We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the development of a uranium deconversion facility in Copenhagen.

Why does this matter?

Low-enriched uranium is supplied as uranium hexafluoride (UF₆). Our molten salt reactors require uranium tetrafluoride (UF₄) for fuel-salt production.

The proposed facility would enable that conversion, creating an important link between uranium enrichment and molten salt reactor fuel production.

Our ambition extends beyond our own reactors. We aim to develop fuel production capabilities that can also support other molten salt reactor developers and research institutions.

We're building the reactor technology, manufacturing capabilities and fuel infrastructure needed to bring molten salt reactors to market at scale; and fundamentally change how nuclear energy is produced.

Nuclear power plants can take a decade to build. We're working to fundamentally change that.

At our Copenhagen R&D facility, construction is underway to prepare for the first version of our Cocoon: a modular steel containment structure intended to house our #thorium molten salt reactor unit; designed for mass manufacturing, offering an alternative to the massive, reinforced concrete containment buildings used in conventional nuclear power plants.

The latest milestone? Concrete is being poured and trenches are being prepared to accommodate the structure.

The Cocoon consists of 18 prefabricated steel sections designed for conventional truck transport and rapid on-site assembly using standard lifting equipment.

By replacing bespoke on-site construction with standardised industrial manufacturing, we aim to significantly reduce construction costs and accelerate deployment.

The Cocoon is one part of our wider ambition to make nuclear energy faster to deploy, scalable through industrial manufacturing, and ultimately competitive with the world's lowest-cost energy sources.

Copenhagen Atomics in the Swiss press 🇨🇭

Swiss leading newspaper SonntagsZeitung has featured Copenhagen Atomics in an in-depth article by Mischa Aebi exploring our technology, our ongoing work with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), and our expansion into Switzerland.

As Switzerland prepares for an important national discussion on the future of nuclear energy, the piece highlights our ambition to industrialise nuclear energy through scalable, factory-manufactured thorium molten salt reactors.

To be clear: we are not relocating our headquarters to Zug (yet) - instead, we are establishing our commercial operations there to anchor ourselves in Switzerland’s exceptional engineering and innovation ecosystem.
