WOW, WOW, WOW — what a night celebrating the @ScharSchool’s 10th anniversary!
Congratulations to @GMUPres Greg Washington , Dean @MarkJRozellGMU, and the entire #ScharSchool team on a remarkable milestone and a spectacular gala.
An enormous thank-you to @DwightSchar for his extraordinary generosity — a $30 million gift investing in the school’s next chapter and the future of public service.
A particularly meaningful moment for me was President Washington’s announcement of our Civics in Action pilot, which I will lead this coming summer. The program will connect classroom learning with firsthand experience in government and civic life, helping students understand how our institutions work and how they can contribute.
The evening brought together an extraordinary gathering of leaders, including former Vice President @Mike_Pence and our master of ceremonies, my dear friend, His Excellency @TerryMcAuliffe, Virginia’s 72nd Governor. We honored @DwightSchar and General Hayden, with former Director of National Intelligence Clapper, former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, and many other distinguished guests in attendance.
Video messages from former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State @CondoleezzaRice added to an already memorable evening.
The gathering reflected what makes the Schar School special: rigorous scholarship, practical experience, and engagement across political perspectives — preparing students to lead in government, business, and communities.
Proud to be part of this team. Here’s to the next decade💚💛
Last but certainly not least, a heartfelt thank-you to the members of the Virginia General Assembly, local elected officials, guests, and friends who joined us to celebrate. I’ll recognize many of you in the photos below — in the order my memory serves me, rather than protocol order. My apologies in advance if I miss anyone; your presence and support meant so much.
Join me in wishing our friends and neighbors a Happy #Diwali🪔, the Festival of Lights!
I was proud to sponsor the legislation in 2013 officially designating the last Saturday in October of every year as Diwali Day in the Commonwealth of #Virginia — honoring a cherished tradition and the many contributions of our #Indian American community.
May this celebration bring you and your families joy, peace, prosperity, and wonderful moments together.
Democrats should not mistake this election’s results for a mandate for far-left socialist policies.
This was an electoral rebuke of Donald Trump. Moderates and independents helped deliver it — and Democrats should not confuse their votes with unconditional support for a far-left agenda.
The Economist’s analysis reinforces that warning: across the House races it examined, 39 moderate Democrats outperformed their statistical benchmarks, while 21 progressives underperformed. All eight progressives running in areas where Kamala Harris received less than 55% of the vote fell short of their benchmarks — by an average of 2.7 percentage points.
Moderates and independents who voted against Trump can just as readily vote against Democrats if they veer too far left. Their support must be earned, not presumed.
