First responders risk their lives on the shoulder so you can stay safe on our roads.

This Crash Responder Safety Week, NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison joined @USDOT Deputy Secretary Steven Bradbury, @USDOTFHWA, and @FMCSA to honor the brave police officers, firefighters, EMS, towing crews and highway workers who keep our roads safe every day.

Administrator Morrison issued a critical reminder: every single responder death is 100% preventable — do your part to protect the people protecting you.

Millions of drivers are unaware they are operating vehicles with open safety recalls — so NHTSA is committing $1.5M to help states provide recall notifications with registration renewals, which we've seen double and triple recall completion rates. 🚗⚠️

The grant funding will prioritize states that:
✅ Develop and execute a reliable process to notify vehicle owners of open safety recalls at registration
✅ Use data-driven methods to measure recall completions
✅ Build comprehensive reports so best practices can be shared
