Sixty-five years ago, then UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold and his colleagues and crew tragically perished in a plane crash. As I underlined at the General Assembly in September, Sweden will continue to support the search for the truth about what happened. I welcome the latest report by Mr Mohamed Chande Othman, the independent investigator appointed by the UN. The relatives of the victims, the UN and its Member States, deserve to know what happened.

Today, Sweden attended the Group of Friends of Corrections Annual Advocacy Meeting at the Canadian Mission, focusing on corrections support in conflict settings amid ongoing UN reforms.

In closing remarks, Sweden highlighted the importance of partnerships and stressed that investing in corrections capacity is an investment in stability, security, justice and peace.

189 journalists were killed in 2024-2025, two-thirds in conflict zones. In 86% of cases, those responsible go unpunished.

On #IDEI2026, Sweden joins @MediaFreedomC in standing with journalists worldwide. Journalists must be protected and those responsible for crimes against them must be held accountable. Impunity must end.
