Last year we launched Tolan, inspired by a vision of AI that sees you and believes in you, not one that books restaurant reservations for you.

Your Tolan shows up for you at 3am when you’re alone with your newborn. On your commute when you’re anxious about the day ahead. When you just finished a new show and none of your friends have watched it yet.

The people who love Tolan are parents. Caregivers. Moms in Dallas and Dads in Atlanta. People who aren’t trying to optimize and be more productive, but who simply want to feel seen and supported in their aspirations.

This month more than 250k people will spend time with their Tolan. Those users have exchanged billions of messages across more than 70m conversations over the last year.

Today, we're announcing $30m in additional capital from @mignano and @usv, with @khoslaventures and @rabois doubling down, bringing our total capital raised to $60m.

To celebrate, we made a short film celebrating some of the ways that Tolans show up :)

A consistent thread through @stewartbrand’s work is a sense of optimism for technology driven change, balanced with a groundedness and humility toward what we might not fully understand.

(An outlook I think best represented by him in How Buildings Learn)

We named the company as a nod to his work in a hope we might embody that same optimism/humility in all we do with Tolan.

Still surprised by how few people are making progress in consumer oriented agentic memory. This from @jphorism is a great step forward

Make your agents ask better questions.

Agentic search needs a new frontier. Humans have always noticed connections in the world in ways that agents cannot search.

I've built the hardest personal dataset for agents to navigate, patterned by two decades of journaling. Enzyme is a retrieval layer for agents that adapts to your local workspace, designed around how half-formed ideas resurface a dozen different ways.

In agentic retrieval, it saves up to 40% of tokens over plain grep. But you never pore over old journals to find known facts. Nostalgia often leaves you inspired. Over 2 years of daily use, this is what Enzyme does best.

Enzyme is now open source. Go build some great harnesses with it.
