Hay momentos imposibles de olvidar

Al concluir nuestra sesión de negociación de un instrumento vinculante sobre los derechos de las personas mayores, recibimos una ovación de pie.
Algo extraordinariamente inusual en la diplomacia. Un momento de profunda emoción.

Mi gratitud a toda la comunidad internacional, sin excepciones, y a las extraordinarias organizaciones de la sociedad civil.

Ustedes iniciaron esta causa. Ustedes la sostuvieron. Ustedes son sus verdaderos protagonistas.

Esta ovación no fue para una persona. Fue para una causa: la dignidad de millones de personas mayores que merecen vivir con derechos, respeto y esperanza.

Malta 🇲🇹 has been elected co-facilitator in drafting a new United Nations 🇺🇳 Convention on the rights of older persons. Together with Lesotho, we will lead the work with openness and impartiality on how the future treaty is implemented and reviewed.
