Excited to see this work published in Nature Metabolism! This study provides new insight into how normally stable adipocytes can be mobilized under extreme metabolic stress, independent of sympathetic signaling. Congrats to @schellerlab and the team!

Unlike the white fat cells you may be familiar with, brown fat cells use energy to produce heat. NIH-supported researchers identified a previously unrecognized way these cells use energy. The findings suggest a potential way to promote weight loss by increasing heat generation in brown fat cells. bit.ly/3LSxeSK

Please check out the latest paper from the @RazaniLab revealing that adipocytes don’t just break down fat the usual way: lysosomal lipolysis steps in during fasting & cold exposure to meet the energy demands. Congrats to the entire team!
